The diagnoses of early ammonoid families, subfamilies and genera are
revised.  Additional evidence is given for the affinities of the Bactritina with
the Ammonoidea and their taxonomical subdivision is revised. Cyrtoconic
bactritid genera (Cyrtobactrites n. g., Kokenia (HOLZAPFEL) as well as the new
species Pseudobactrites peneaui are deseribed. Within the early goniatites,
Anetoceras is shown to be a primitively coiled genus which contains four gyro-
conic to advolute species and, among others, the new species hunsrueckianum
and advolvens. As a new genus of the Mimosphinctinae Teicherticeras is
separated from Gyroceratites.lt includes the new subgenus Convoluticeras.
New species of Gyroceratites and the new subgenus Lamelloceras are described.
Palaeogoniatites is proven to belong to the Agoniatitidae and to represent a
very advanced trend of secondary uncoiling. It is derived from Mimagonia-
tites, the new species P. janus being a connecting link.
