The increased knowledge of vertical ranges and phylogenetic relationships enables a further break-up of the former carpet-bag genera Manticoceras and Tornoceras into smaller monophyletic taxa with great biostratigraphical significance. As part of the preparation for the revised Ammonoid Treatise six new genera are erected:  Costamanticoceras n.gen. (type species Gephyroceras nodulosum WEDEKIND),  Enseites n.gen.  (type species Manticoceras sulcatum MATERN), Delphhinites n. gen. (types specie Manticoceras unduloconstrictum MILLER), Clauseniceras n. gen. (type species Crickites expectatus WEDEKIND), Domanikoceras n.gen. (type Dom. timidum n.sp.) and Meropharciceras n.gen. (type species Beloceras ? discifome BENSAID). The evolution and biostratigraphy of the Gephuroceratidae and related families with subdivided ventral lobe are discussed in detail. In order to create natural and monophyletic suprageneric taxonomic units three new families are proposed: the Petteroceratidae, Eobeloceratidae and Koenenitidae. Other genera and families are emended and a neotype is selected for Playfordites tripartitus (G. & F. SANDBERGER).
