Abstract: After a drastic decline in the number of taxa at the end of the Devonian
period, ammonoids proliferated increasingly during the Carboniferous period and
produced numerous highly diverse stocks.  Of the suborder Goniatitina 12 super-
families and 34 families with about 180 genera and of the order Prolecanitida
2 superfamilies and 5 families , with about 25 genera can be recognized (not
counting those 4 superfamilies which arose in late Carboniferous and flourished
during the Permian period. The phylogenetic relationship and the classification
of the Carboniferous Goniatitina are reviewed.
