The Tournaisian ammonoids are here described from the Heishantou Formation at three localities of Hoboksar
and Toli, northern Xinjiang.  They contain 14 species within 5 genera (and subgenera):  Protocanites, Gattendorfia
(Gattendorfia), G. (Kazakhstania), G. (Zadelsdorfia) and Xinjiangites gen. nov.. Protocanites is characterized
by its funnel-shaped ventral lobe and lanceolate adventive lobes (A), Gattendorfia (Gattendorfia) by the U-shaped
ventral lobe with parallel sides, G. (Kazakhstania) by the lanceolate ventral lobe and the adventive lobes which are
obviously shorter than the ventral lobe, and G. (Zadelsdorfia) by the lanceolate ventral lobe and the adventive
lobes which are a little shorter or longer than the ventral lobe.  Xinjiangites is rather similar to Muensteroceras, but
has a ventral lobe divergent forwards instead of parallel-sided as in Muensteroceras.  The Tournaisian ammonoids
have been known only in northern Xinjiang and fall within the lower part of the Protocanites-Pericyclus zone of the
 middle Tournaisian age.
