Type species: Goniatites allei Winchell, 1862, p.363 [OD].
A: Conch discoidal, involute, with very narrow umbilicus; venter broadly rounded, rarely oxycone.
B: Growth lines fine or coarse, with deep hyponomic sinus.
D: Constrictions may be present; no spiral ornamentation.
G: Ventral lobe with relatively low median saddle, sides convex curved. Adventitious lobe deep and acute, asymmetrical, sometimes bell-shaped.
[KUZINA 1980, p.81: Conch subdiscoidal to oxycone. Whorls very to completely involute, with tightly rounded or keeled
venter. Umbilicus closed to tight. Sculpture of twice folded growth lines. Ventral lobe quite wide, with low median saddle
and diverging sides, which are convex in the middle. First lateral saddle rounded.]
