Type species - Irdanites kaufmanni Klug, 2001

"The stratigraphically older Ird. kaufmanni is morphologically significantly more advanced than Irdanites and Fasciculoceras in its strongly concavo-convex ornament. Sutures are, however, more primitive, with respect to the mature reduction of the E-lobe. The co-occuring early Gyroceratites species differs strongly in its flat, bicarinate shell form and flank ribbing (Figs. 11e-f). Based on the fast expanding, rounded whorl form and deep ocular sinus, Oculoceras n. gen. was possibly ancestral to Mimagoniatites."

Restricted to the Erbenoceras advolvens Zone (LD III-B).
