Klug, 2001, p.498: Shell of small to moderately large size, advolute, thinly discoidal; without or with a small imprint zone. Initially circular whorl cross sections, later subcircular, elliptical or subtrapezoidal whorl cross section, ventrolateral edges more or less angular, flattened to tabular venter. Moderately wide umbilicus, large umbilical window (0.8 to 2.5 mm). Protoconch ovoid, sometimes with a subtle curvature, small (0.8 to 1.1 mm) and unsculptured. Low to very high whorl expansion rates (2.0 to 3.2). Sculpture rursiradiate or rectiradiate, growth lines sometimes with a shallow lateral sinus, sometimes with a ventrolateral projection or only a low salient, and with a deep ventral sinus. On the venter, the growth lines are coarser and additionally, small kidney-shaped impressions are often present on the ventral midline. Suture line without or with a small internal lobe, with a broad lateral lobe and a small and narrow external lobe; septa sometimes with small lateral inflexions.

Comparisons (Klug, 2001, p.499): The Mimoceratidae STEINMANN 1890 differ from the Mimosphinctidae ERBEN 1953 and the Teicherticeratidae BOGOSLOVSKY 1969 in the tabular venter with angular ventrolateral edges. Most representatives of the Mimoceratidae (unknown from Lenzites) also have a smaller umbilical window than species of the Teicherticeratidae and the Mimosphinctidae. The whorl expansion rates of the two genera of the Mimoceratidae in comparison with the closest related genera of both the Mimosphinctidae ERBEN 1953 and the Teicherticeratidae BOGOSLOVSKY 1969 are plotted in a diagram in Fig. 14. Besides Lenzites, the ventral kidney-shaped impressions are present in Chebbites KLUG 2001 and Gracilites BOGOSLOVSKY 1972. Close phylogenetic positions of the latter two genera and the Mimoceratidae are very likely.

A: Conch advolute or evolute. Umbilical window small.
C: Ribs rursiradiate or rectilinear, on later stages biconvex.
