Type species: Goniatites truncatus PHILLIPS, 1836, p.234; SD KORN, 1988 , p.39.

A:   Conch form discoidal, with extremely narrow umbilicus.
B:   Growth lines non-crenulate, biconvex, usually fine, with well-developed ventro-lateral salient and deep hyponomic sinus;
F:   No spiral ornamentation.
D:   Constrictions may be present.
G:   Ventral lobe relatively narrow, with parallel, straight sides, and moderately low median saddle. First lateral saddle
broadly rounded; adventitious lobe V-shaped, deep, symmetrical.

[Some authors (Korn,1988,p.39) regard Eoglyphioceras,Brüning,1923  as valid vs. Beyrichoceratoides Bisat,1924.
Both genera are established on the basis of similar characteristics and arguments, naming the same species group
(truncatus and implicatus, resp.) as typical for the genus. Brüning failed to name truncatus formally the type species; Eoglyphioceras was defined by amalgamation of Beyrichoceras and Muensteroceras with unclear diagnosis. Eoglyphioceras is regarded herein as an invalid genus. For discussion see Ruzhentsev & Bogoslovskaia, 1971, p.120, Riley, 1996, p.31].
