Type species: Protactoclymenia pulcherrima Wedekind, 1908, p.608, proposed by Price, 1982, but not yet established.

A    Conch form discoidal to lenticular; venter flatly rounded; flanks usually convex, flattened in some species; umbilicus
      moderately wide.
B    Fine or coarse growth lines with concave-convex course, moderately prominent ventrolateral salient, ventral sinus
      weak to long as wide.
C    Usually without ribs, some species with 20 to 30 simple, fine ribs on flanks.
D    Usually no constrictions, rarely internal shell thickenings.
G    No ventral lobe, lateral lobe symmetric, shallowly rounded.

[Because of the similarity of suture and growth lines Protactoclymenia is regarded by most authors as a junior synonym
of Cyrtoclymenia].
