Type species: Clymenia bilobata Münster, 1843, p.39 [OD].

A:   Conch form lenticular; venter broadly rounded; umbilicus narrow or moderately wide.
C:   No ribs.
G:   Ventral lobe wide, divided by a broad median saddle; shallow median lobe may be developed in advanced species. Lateral lobe asymmetric, widely rounded; one umbilical lobes lies for its larger part within the umbilical seam, a second umbilical lobe may be developed in advanced species. Sutural formula: [Germ.] (E1 E1) L U I or (E1 Em E1) L U1 U2 I, [Russ.] (V1 V1) U:I D or (V1 V1 V1) U U1:I D.

[Biloclymenia was introduced for advanced species with two umbilical lobes; the type species appears to be based on a form with only one umbilical lobe (teste Price, 1982, unpubl.). Species seem to be transitional].

[BOGOSLOVSKIY 1981, p.64: Conch thicklydiscoidal, more or less involute, with moderately wide umbilicus, lightly thickened lateral sides and rounded venter.  Shell surface smooth, covered merely by growth lines which form two salients.  Suture line forms a ventral, two umbilical, an inner lateral and a dorsal lobe.  Ventral lobe wide, two parted, with an additional lobe at the top of the middle saddle.]
