Type species: Planulites undulatus Münster, 1832, p.9 [OD].

A    Conch form discoidal, venter flattened in adult stage and broadly rounded in juveniles; flanks convex; umbilicus usually
      wide, sometimes moderately wide.
B    Fine or coarse growth lines; direction prorsiradiate (stratigraphically older species) to rursiradiate (younger
species); course biconvex with weak ventrolateral salient and deep external sinus. Distinct ventral band in all species.
C    30 to 50 parabolic external spines on ventral band may be present.
D    Sometimes one terminal constriction.
G    Ventral saddle low. Suture with distinct, moderately deep adventitious lobe; lateral lobe asymmetric with pointed ventral
side. Dorsal lobe deep, bottle-shaped. Sutural formula: [Germ:] ALI, [Russ.] U:I or (V1 V1) U:D [interpretation of first
       lateral lobe questionable].

Four subgenera (for discussion see Korn & Price, 1987, p.19):

Kosmoclymenia (Kosmoclymenia), K. (Linguaclymenia), K. (Lissoclymenia), K. (Muessenbiaergia).
