1991  Junggarites Liang & Wang: 105.

Type species: Junggarites pinguis Liang & Wang, 1991, p.106 [OD].

A:   Conch form like Goniatites, with an extremely narrow umbilicus.
B:   Growth lines crenistriate.
F:   Spiral ornamentation faint.
G:   Ventral lobe with relatively narrow prongs, almost parallel-sided; the upper part of its flanks widely divergent.
Ventrolateral saddle subacute, adventitious lobe asymmetrical, deep and bell-shaped. [Only type species known].

[Liang & Wang, 1991, p. 105]: Shell rather large, subglobose, moderately involute. Venter broadly arched, lateral side
convex, whorl section crescent-shaped. Umbilicus small and deep, funnel-shaped, bounded by subangular shoulder.
Surface ornamented with fine longitudinal lirae and growth lines, outer whorl with 2--3 constrictions. Ventral lobe long
and narrow and divided by a median saddle into two pincer-shaped prongs. Lateral lobe long, wider than ventral lobe,
umbilical lobe long and narrow, external saddle high and narrow.

This new genus resembles Goniatites, but its conch is thicker and its ventral lobe is divided into two pincer-shaped
divisions, with longer lateral lobe. The saddle rather round.
