Family Agathiceratidae:

A:   Conch form thick-discoidal to globular; whorl section involute, umbilicus very small to closed. Late ontogenetic
shell modifications resulted in changes of coiling, in changes of whorl section, development of an apertural
constriction or shell thickening (Davis, 1972, p.30).
B:   Growth lines biconvex, usually crenulated.
F:   Longitudinal lirae usually stronger than growth striae, rarely without spiral ornamentation.
G:   Suture-line with Y-shaped ventral lobe and acute or subacute ventrolateral saddle. Tendency of trifurcation of
adventitious lobe only. Sutural formula of advanced forms: [Germ.] (E1EmE1)(AvAmAd)LUI, [Russ.] (V1V1)L2L1L2U:ID].

[Ruzhentsev & Bogoslovskaia, 1970, p. 59]: Shell subspheroconic to pachyconic. Whorls completely involute. Umbilicus ranges from narrow to closed. Sculpture longitudinal as a rule, but sometimes only transverse striae retained. Total of 8-12 lobes, of which only three are dorsal lobes. Ventral lobe very broad; its branches ranging from acuminate to rounded. First lateral saddle comparatively narrow, ranging from acuminate to rounded. Lateral lobe with lateral processes in old members, converted initially into denticulation in the course of phylogeny and then into independent lobes; 3 basally rounded lobes thus develop from one denticulate lobe.
