Type species: Goniatites spiralis Phillips, 1841, p. 121 [SD Plummer & Scott, 1937, p.185].

A: Conch form discoidal to subglobose, moderately involute.
B,F: Ornament consisting of fine transverse striae crossed by prominent longitudinal lirae.
D: Strong constrictions form lateral sinus, shallow salient on the ventrolateral shoulder and a shallow ventral sinus.
C: Some species exhibit riblets.
G: Ventral lobe relatively narrow, with roundedly diverging sides; first lateral saddle broadly rounded. Adventitious lobe
wide, bell-shaped, pointed.
