Type species: Chaotianoceras modestum Chao et Liang, 1974, p.306; OD.

[Zhao et al., 1978]: Shell moderately large, extremely evolute, discoidal with arched venter and keel in the middle.
Whorls depressed ventrodorsally in the young stage with arched venter, changing to rectangular at maturity. The
lateral sides are marked by short, strong ribs and terminal nodes on the ventro-lateral shoulders representing the
Pseudotirolites stage. Both the ribs and nodes become obscure or disappeared on the last whorl.
Umbilicus wide and shallow. Suture line ceratitic with rather long ventral lobe and simple, pointed branches, lateral
lobe as long as ventral lobe; outer saddle rather high and narrow.
