Type species: Mapirites latumbilicatus Leonova, 1983, p

[Leonova, 1989, p. 132]: Conch large, pachycone, moderately involute. Umbilicus wide, stairlike. Lamellae thin, forming
a slight sinus on venter. Outer part of suture line consists of a thin ventral lobe, slightly tighter at the top and bifid divided
only in the hind part (half way up), with very thin prongs, a thin medial saddle, five thinly wedge-shaped lateral lobes
which diminish in size toward the umbilicus, and a thin, serrated umbilical lobe. Serrations on all lobe shallow, not
complicated by secondary serrations. Saddles wide, widely rounded. Inner segment of suture line consists of a dorsal
and four  inner lateral lobes, the third being two-parted.
