Type species: Gastrioceras cancellatum Bisat 1923,p.47 [OD].

A: Conch moderately involute.
B-D: Well developed tubercles on umbilical shoulder like Gastrioceras, but with reticulate ornamentation at maturity.
G: Suture resembling Gastrioceras.

Three subgenera: Cancelloceras (Cancelloceras), Cancelloceras (Crencelloceras), Cancelloceras (Monitoceras).

Cancelloceras (Cancelloceras):

Spirals more pronounced than transverse striae. Number of umbilical plications does not exceed 25, they persist long and
have a radiate direction at the umbilical shoulder.

Cancelloceras (Monitoceras):

Strong transverse ornamentation more pronounced than spirals; umbilical riblets disappearing on early stages.
Ventral lobe rather shallow and broad.

Cancelloceras (Crencelloceras):

Transverse ornamentation more pronounced than spirals and with umbilical plications subradiate on umbilical shoulder,
usually more numerous than in other subgenera.
