1993 Eocanites.-Becker: 470.
1997 Becanites Korn: 34.

Type species: Prolecanites algarbiensis Pruvost, 1914, p. [OD].

Only eight lobes; two lobes on flanks. Sutural formula: [Germ.] EALUI, [Russ.] VLU:ID [ontogenetic development of suture
insufficiently known].

First lateral lobe slightly pouched; lateral lobe next to umbilicus lanceolate and rather long.

Similar to Eocanites LIBROVITCH 1962, but differs in the shape of the lateral, lobe, which is very small and V-shaped in Eocanites but lanceolate in Becanites. The lanceolate lateral lobe is similar to that of Protocanites, which has a lanceolate external lobe in subadult specimens, but a simplified V-shaped external lobe in the adults stage, character not known from Becanites.
