Type species: Anarcestes (Werneroceras) subumbonale Wedekind, 1918, p.108 [SD Schindewolf, 1933], = Goniatites ruppachense Kayser, 1879, p.304 [subj.].

Fig. TAX5629 A-E: W. uralicum (sutures), F (cross-section); G-H: W. altaicum, I: W. socolicum (sutures).

[Chlupac & Turek, 1983, p.107, Werneroceras s. l.: Shell broadly discoidal with deep imprint
zone; ventrolateral sulci developed in some species. Umbilicus variable in width. Embryonal
shell tightly coiled, protoconch subglobular and markedly curved; umbilical perforation
absent. Sculpture consists of growth lines, ribs developed only in some species. Suture
with broadly rounded dorsal lobe, lateral lobe shifted during ontogeny toward centre of
lateral sides, ventral lobe narrow.

Werneroceras (Werneroceras), p.108: Shell broadly discoidal with slightly to moderately
increasing WH; ventrolateral sulci developed in some species. Umbilicus narrow to medium
in witdth. Embryonal shell tightly coiled, protoconch markedly curved. Sculpture consists
of growth lines; ribs - if developed - are faint and occur in the umbolateral part of the
shell.

Werneroceras (Crispoceras) Chlupac & Turek, 1983, p.110: W. (Crispoceras) differs from W.
(Werneroceras) in having a less involute shell, markedly compressed whorls, broad umbilicus,
and pronounced ribbing in later growth stages.]
