1978  Aenigmatoceras Ruzhentsev & Bogoslovskaia: 144.

Type species: Aenigmatoceras rhipaeum Ruzhentsev & Bogoslovskaia, 1978, p. 145 [OD].

A:   Conch subdiscoidal, involute, umbilicus moderately narrow. D:   Two or three deep constrictions per whorl, deepest with sinus on flanks, shallow and almost linear on venter.
G:   Ventral lobe wide, with divergent sides. Median saddle as high as half of entire ventral lobe, prongs not pouched. First lateral saddle rather wide, rounded.

[Deep constrictions suggest resemblance to Tympanoceras, but phylogenetic relationship uncertain, assignment to Cravenoceratidae tentative].

[Ruzhentsev et Bogoslovskaya, 1978, p.144: Conch middle sized.  Pachycone whorls very involute and approximated medially.  Umbilicus moderately tight.  Weak sculpture, represented by lamellae.  Two (seldom three) constrictions per revolution are present;  on the sides they are deep, dent-like and form a slight sinus.  On the venter they are weak and almost straight. Ventral lobe not wide (width/height approx. 0.95), with wedge-like prongs.  Height of median saddle exceeds half of lobe height.  First outer saddle quite wide, but thins considerably to the top.]
