1924  Reticuloceras Bisat: 114.
     1978  Aphantites Ruzhentsev & Bogoslovskaya: 243.

Type species: Aphantites aenigmaticus Ruzhentsev & Bogoslovskaya, 1978, p. 243, OD.

A:   Conch form with narrow, in some forms very narrow umbilicus.
B:   Sculpture consisting of strongly reticulate ornamentation, at least on early stages.
C:   Small ribs near the umbilicus; faint umbilical nodes common at early whorls.
G:   Adventitious lobe as wide and deep as ventral lobe.

[Aphantites, from Yeadonian, based on two specimens with very weak nodes on early stages, weak riblets and very weak spiral ornamentation, displays a simple reticuloceran suture with rounded lobes; systematic assignment questionable].

[Ruzhentsev & Bogoslovskaya, 1978, p.243: Conch not large, subdiscoidal.  Whorls almost completely involute.  Umbilicus moderately tight.  Very weak protuberances present on young shells.  Later sculpture is represented by thin ribs, which form an undeep ventral sinus.  Very thin lirae present, more frequent than ribs.  Ventral lobe not very wide (w/h approx. 1.0),  with low saddle and thin prongs, rounded at the base.  Side lobe also rounded.]
