Type species: Retites semiretia McCaleb, 1964, p.234 [OD].

A:   Conch thick-discoidal, evolute, with wide umbilicus.
C:   Strong ribs more or less confined to umbilical shoulder diverging into weak ribbing on ventrolateral side and venter.
F:   Longitudinal ornamentation partly well developed.
G:   Reticuloceran type of suture-line; prongs of ventral lobe not pouched, median saddle not exceeding half the height
       of entire ventral lobe.

Very closely related or transitional to Phillipsoceras.

Manger & Saunders, 1980, p.25, diagnosis:
Conch thickly subdiscoidal (W/D approximately 0.60) with depressed whorls (H/W approximately 0.50) and wide umbilicus
(U/D approximately 0.50). Reticulate sculpture formed by coarse, non-crenulate transverse lirae and weaker longitudinal
lirae that diminish across the venter. Umbilical ribs, present in all stages, originate at the umbilical shoulder and extend onto
the flanks. Constrictions prominent and a ventral sulcus is present on some specimens.  Mature suture consists of short,
bluntly pointed ventral prongs, a wide, shallow lateral lobe and a symmetrical, subangular umbilical lobe.
