[Ruzhentsev & Bogoslovskaia, 1975, p.48]: Shell small, ranging
from subdiscoconic to suboxyconic. Whorls from competely to
moderately involute. Umbilicus from narrow to moderately wide.
Sculpture strongly developed, clearly reflected on the cast and
represented mainly by regularly dichotomizing costellae forming
the ventral sinus. Ventral lobe not very wide, even undergoing
degradation in the course of phylogeny (wl/hl= 0.90- 0.55; its
branches invariably narrow, pointed or rounded.
Distinguished from the Homoceratidae by the lack of a cadiconic
stage, by narrow whorls and by strongly developed costellae
instead of lamellae; distiguished from the Reticuloceratidae by
the lack of reticulate sculpture, and by the more strongly
developed regularly dichotomizing costellae.
