Type species: Mimosphinctes tripartitus Eichenberg, 1931, p. 185.
[Chlupac & Turek, 1983, p.23: Shell advolute, gently expanding. Cross-section of whorls suboval, narrowing ventrally; imprint zone absent. Umbilicus wide and shallow, with large umbilical perforation. Prominent radiate or rursiradiate ribs bifurcate ventrally, additional ribs often inserted in interspaces on ventrolateral and ventral sides. All ribs extend across venter, forming gentle ventral sinus. Growth lines with dorsal salient, parallel with ribs.
The suture forms shallow rounded dorsal lobe (may be absent), broadly rounded lateral lobe, and narrow ventral lobe.]
Klug, 2001, p.402: Shell small to moderate in size, advolute to evolute and thinly discoidal. Whorls laterally flattened, rounded venter. Embryonic shell ornamented. Moderate to moderately high whorl expansion rate (1.8 to 2.3). Rectiradiate or rursiradiate sculpture with prominent ventrally bi- or trifurcating, mostly coarse ribs (20 to 100 per whorl); additional ribs often inserted ventrolaterally and ventrally, coarse growth lines with only a shallow external sinus, which fade out dorsolaterally. Suture line with a small internal lobe.
Comparisons (Klug, 2001, p.493): Mimosphinctes EICHENBERG 1931 is clearly distinguished from the other two genera of the Mimosphinctinae ERBEN 1953 by the ventrally bi- or trifurcating ribs. Additionally, Talenticeras ERBEN 1965 has a gyroconical terminal whorl and Chebbites KLUG 2001 displays kidney-shaped impressions on the venter.
A: Conch advolute or extremely evolute.
C: Ribs rectilinear, bifurcating or trifurcating.
