Type species: Gyroceratites teicherti Chlupac & Turek, 1983, p.25 (= G. desideratus Teichert, 1948 non Walcott, 1884).

[Chlupac & Turek, 1983, p.25:  Shell advolute or slightly involute, moderately expanding. Umbilicus wide, with distinct umbilical perforation. Imprint zone slightly developed or absent. Lateral sides fo shell flattened, venter rounded. Ribs (if developed) radiate or gently rursiradiate, dying out dorsally and ventrally. Growth lines radiate, with gentle ventral sinus. The mature suture exhibits broadly rounded lateral lobe and small ventral lobe; a small dorsal lobe may be well-developed or may be totally replaced by dorsal saddle.]

Klug, 2001, p.503: Conch of small to moderately large size, advolute or evolute and thinly discoidal; without or with a small imprint zone. Whorl cross section subcircular in early growth stages, later subtrapezoidal, venter rounded. Wide umbilicus. High to very high whorl expansion rate (2.3 to 3.0). Sculpture with fine ribs with gently rursiradiate or rectiradiate direction. Growth lines with a shallow external sinus. Suture line with a small external lobe, a broad lateral lobe, and sometimes with a small internal lobe.

Comparisons (Klug, 2001, p.503): Some characters such as the convex rursiradiate growth lines are shared by Teicherticeras and Gracilites BOGOSLOVSKY 1972. However, the latter genus can be separated by the more thinly discoidal conch and the narrow to almost oxyconic venter.

A:   Ww/D more than 0.2, with tabulate ventral side and rounded ventrolateral edges.
G:   EL or ELI.
