Klug, 2001, p.492: Shell evolute, advolute, or with gyroconical terminal whorl; without or with a small imprint zone. Oval to subtrapezoidal whorl cross section with converging flanks. Very wide umbilicus, large umbilical window (2-3 mm). Moderate to moderately high whorl expansion rates (1.8 to 2.3). Sculpture with coarse fastigate ribs (20 to 100 per whorl) and growth lines extend across the venter. Suture line with internal lobe.

Comparisons (Klug, 2001, p.493): In contrast to the Anetoceratinae RUZHENCEV 1957, the umbilical window of the Mimosphinctinae ERBEN 1953 measures only about 3 mm or less and the whorl expansion rate is higher (> 1.8). Sometimes, they have ventrally bi- or trifurcating coarse ribs, tabular venters or in Talenticeras ERBEN 1965 a loosely coiled terminal whorl. Chebbites KLUG 2001 and Talenticeras ERBEN 1965 are included in this subfamily because of their moderate to moderately high whorl expansion rates, the rursi- to rectiradiate course of the growth lines, in combination with a large umbilical window. In contrast to the Teicherticeratidae BOGOSLOVSKY 1969, these two genera have whorl expansion rates under 2.3.

A:   Conch advolute, evolute, some with gyroconic terminal whorl.
C:   No internal lobe, or, if present, very shallow.
